Jaguar - Flat Stanley has arrived to Finland

Greetings from Finland! Flat Stanley arrived to his host family before Christmas already. He was very tired of the long, long trip so it took some time before he could move his legs and arms again after spending a lot of time in the envelope. Now he can move around normally. He was surprised of how much snow there is outside. He can't walk by himself there at all, because he would get lost in the deep snow and his family couldn't find him anymore. Some day his family will take him to try the cross-country skiing, because that is what everybody likes to do now in the wintertime.

Flat Stanley has also started to learn a new language, Finnish. It's very different from English and sounds odd, but luckily his host family can speak some English, too. He's learned a couple of Finnish words while his stay. Hello is "Moi" and thank you is "kiitos". Today he played "Skip-bo" with the kids and learned the numbers in Finnish language: Yksi, kaksi, kolme...

Flat Stanley saw a real Santa this Christmas. The real Santa lives in Finland, in Korvatunturi, which is a big hill in Lapland, the Northern part of Finland. Santa moves around with his sleigh and reindeer. In Finland Santa comes on Christmas Eve and brings the presents. First Flat Stanley was a little bit afraid when Santa came inside, but soon he noticed that there's nothing to be afraid of.

There are 2 boys in the host family. They play floorball quite often, and one day Flat Stanley wanted to try to play with them. He was the goalkeeper but there were some problems. Every time the ball rolled towards the goal Flat Stanley fell down and he hurt himself. That's why he prefers to sit on the top of the goal at the moment and only watch.

Now it's time to get prepared for a new school day. The children have packed their rucksacks and it's time to go to bed. Bye for now Jaguar, I'll talk to you later.
PS. Sorry, the dates in the pictures are wrong, we'll try to fix the camera later...

  1. Dear Sari,
We are so glad that Flat Stanley made it across the Atlantic Ocean to see you! We just got done studing about oceans in Social Studies class. We hope that Flat Stanley doesn't get too hurt playing Floorball with the boys otherwise he might end up with a cast on! Glad he made it there in time to see Santa for Christmas also!
    Love,

    1. Sari,
I have as much fun as the kids in 2nd grade keeping up with Mr. Flat Stanely and his adventures. This will also teach me a couple things about your country. Glad he made it safely and is enjoying his stay!
