Flat Stanley visits Lisbon, Portugal

This weekend, Flat Stanley joined me and my friends, Devon and Tawny, for a trip to Lisbon, Portugal.  Here he is at the Edinburgh airport waiting to board our flight.

Over the weekend, we did a lot of walking around the city and Flat Stanley really enjoyed hiking up to the Carmo Convent and Church.  The buildings were built in 1389 and 1423, making them about 600 years old!  Much of the church was destroyed in an earthquake about 250 years ago, but the ruins that are left are beautiful.

Flat Stanley also really enjoyed the view of Lisbon from the church.

On our second day in Lisbon, we visited the Museu Nacional do Azulejo, which is the national tile museum.  Azulejos are ceramic tiles that are made in Portugal and that decorate many of the buildings there.  Here's a picture of Stanley with some of the tiles.

Sardines are a very popular food in Portugal.  Stanley tried them at a restaurant and decided he's a fan!

On our last day in Lisbon, we rode a cable car around the city.

The cable car was fun but the ride was a little bumpy.  Here's a picture of Flat Stanley hanging on to the railing.

We flew back to Edinburgh on Sunday and Flat Stanley's been resting up.  This Friday, we're heading out of town again!  This time we're going to Barcelona, Spain.  I'll report back next week!

  1. Dear Tricia,
Wow... we are so jealous that Flat Stanley gets to travel with you and your friends to all these neat places! We wish we were there with you! We thought the tile was beautiful! There were only a few of us that have ever eaten sardines before! Thanks for posting so many neat pictures of the ruins and everything else!
