Ant's Flat Stanley arrives in Naples, Italy

Ciao and greetings from bella Napoli, Italia! Flat Stanley's Italian adventure has started with a view of Mt. Vesuvius which overlooks Naples. Mt. Vesuvius is most famously known for it's eruption in 79AD which completely covered Pompeii and Herculaneum with volcanic debris. The debris preserved these towns and they are still being excavated today. Arriverderci for now!

  1. Dawn,
We enjoyed seeing the picture of Flat Stanley with Mount Vesuvius in the background. We would like to know how close people can get up to the volcano. Can people climb it? Or do they have to stay far away from it in case it erupts again? When was the last time it erupted? Have a great Thanksgiving!!
    Love,

  2. People can climb Mt. Vesuvius. In fact, my family has hiked it twice. There is a road that gets you pretty close to the summit and then for 6 euro you can hike up the steep path to the top that is maybe about a mile in length. It last erupted in 1944. It is the only active volcano in mainland Europe.
