Bear's Fun Day at the Stables

Hello again everybody!  Stanley has enjoyed his stay here in Dallas with Cody, myself and Harley.  He's having so much fun going around town with us.  Recently, I signed up to take an extra class outside of my schooling as a Chiropractor.  I signed up to learn about Animal Chiropractic.  Just like adjusting human spines, I will be adjusting animal spines like horses, cats, and dogs.  Stanley got to go to one of the stables with me this past weekend to observe the adjustments being performed on the horses.

Stanley learned a lot about Chiropractic and how it is so important for your spine.  He had forgotten a little about our conversations in earlier posts, but I took the time to remind him.  He had no idea the nervous system, or the “master system” as we call it, could do so much.  He learned that the brain and spinal cord make up the nervous system and it’s in charge of controlling all the organs, muscles and bones that move your body. Sometimes a subluxation can occur in your body, and cause the organs to not talk to the brain very well.  Stanley learned that a subluxation is just something that interrupts the brain from talking to all organs, muscles and bones. Stanley was a little confused what a subluxation was, so I explained: think of a subluxation as static on a telephone line.  When you’re talking to someone on a phone, and there is static on the line, you can’t understand what they’re staying.  But when it’s removed, the message becomes clear.  A chiropractor’s job is to remove that static, or subluxation from the body. 

Humans get these subluxations all the time, even when they are born.  But many people don’t realize that animals have spines too! So they get subluxated just like their human caretakers.  I’m learning how to remove subluxations from both people AND animals, so that they can have a healthier spine.  Because when you’re SPINE’S in LINE, you’ll feel FINE; Stanley really likes that motto J.

PICTURE: Here I am adjusting a horses skull.  Chiropractors call this area the ‘occiput.’  It’s kind of a weird word but it’s pretty much the head of the horse.  This horse was experiencing some headaches, feeling tired, and like it just didn’t want to do anything.  So I examined its head and it turned out it needed an adjustment.  Afterwards, the horse was good as new and felt like a million bucks $$.. Stanley got to witness the whole thing!  He knew Bear back home had been around horses and couldn’t wait to tell him about his adventures to the stables.

  

PICTURE: The picture of Stanley in front of the book is just one of the many books I’m going to be reading as I study Animal Chiropractic.  Stanley had a blast at the stables with me and my friend from Chiropractic College.  There were so many horses and dogs, that he had a hard time keeping up with their names!

This was a HUGE arena.  There were over 40 horses in which we got to practice adjusting.
I am also learning how to adjust cats and dogs.  So I thought I'd add a picture of me adjusting Harley's pelvis (hips) which is the left picture.  The right picture is me adjusting a horse a while back during the 1rst module we learned.  Stanley said it was too cold, so he didn't join me during that module.

Well I’ve had fun with Stanley and running around Dallas with him.  We have one more big adventure planned before he has to come home.  But until then, I’ll talk to y'all later! 

Cheetah's Day in High School!!!

Flat Stanley went with Sam to Lakewood High in California!  He got to each lunch and attend a bunch of really hard classes.  The teachers thought he was really smart!  He helped Sam write an essay and got to look through a microscope in Anatomy class!  Flat Stanley also helped teach a lesson in Science class!  He made lots of friends too and had a great time with all those teenagers! 

 

Cheetah's Winter Vacation!!

Flat Stanley had a great time in Big Bear, California over the Christmas Holiday!  We went bowling at the Big Red Barn Bowling Alley.  We stayed in a cabin and ate yummy snacks, and played cards and games.  We even met a BIG Frosty the Snowman!

Flat Stanley had a great time at the Veldhuizen Christmas in Lakewood, California!  He checked out the stockings to see what Grandma Claus had put in there.  Then he checked out some good food with two crazy ladies (Auntie Lisa and Auntie Lynette).  But the highlight of the day (besides celebrating Jesus' birthday!) was watching the Los Angeles Lakers play basketball!!!

Greetings from Lapland, Finland!



We took a little trip to the Northern part of Finland. Stanley liked it very much although his clothing was again not so suitable but we found him warm mittens, a hat and overalls so he could enjoy the nature.

Lapland is a large area in the Northern parts of Finland, Sweden, Norway and Russia. In the old times there used to live "Saami" -people that spoke their own language and got their living from fishing and reindeer.

At the moment there are not very many original Saami -people left so they try to keep up their culture and language so it wouldn't disappear.

As we've had a lot of snow in Hamina, it didn't surprise Stanley that there was even more of it in Lapland. Stanley went on some skiing trips (in the rucksack, the journeys were too long for him as we skiied almost to the top of the hill you can see behind him in the picture). The best part of the trips were when we stopped by a fireplace in the forest and grilled sausage! Yum. It tasted really good with some warm juice, and it also kept us warm. There were a lof of tourists from different parts of Finland and even from different countries of Europe. But no, Stanley didn't hear any English around him, only Finnish, Swedish, German and French. But he kept on smiling and communicated that way.

Stanley was very anxious to see some reindeer and one day he was lucky! Too bad we didn't have the camera with us, but Stanley thought that they looked exactly the same that he had seen on movies and cartoons. People keep reindeer for their meat and the fur. The reindeer meat is dark and quite dry meat and people eat it as a roast or a stew, usually with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam.

We stayed in Lapland for a week as we had a little winter holiday from school. Stanley really liked the nature, you could see so far away and there isn't so crowded, you can enjoy the quietness and peace. Stanley was very relaxed and is ready for new adventures. Only the trip home was quite long, we had to drive 12 hours back South.

Stanley continues his stay here with us. Now we are waiting for the spring to come, now the weather has been sunny but the snow is still there. The children still go skiing and skating! But soon it shoud get a little bit warmer so Stanley can play more outside. Jaguar Stanley wants to wish you all a Happy Easter in Finnish, It's "Iloista pääsiäistä!"

Rabbit - an encounter with a medieval knight

We had a wonderful adventure at Medieval Times! It’s a restaurant that takes you back to the medieval period by dressing up as knights in shining armor and holding a tournament. We watch these knights ride horseback while fighting each other to see who can win the King’s daughter’s hand in marriage. Doesn't he loook scary!

 

This is a falcon used for hunting. We watched as he flew around the arena as if trying catch small animals.

 

We were cheering for the blue knight but unfortunantly he didn't win!

Flat Stanley Visits Glasgow, Scotland

A few weekends ago, two of my friends got married in Glasgow, Scotland.  Flat Stanley tagged along to the wedding and had a great time listening to bagpipes and admiring the kilts (which look like skirts) that many of the men wore.

Flat Stanley even tried some haggis.  Haggis is made from the heart, lungs and liver of a sheep and is the national dish of Scotland.

Flat Stanley really also really enjoyed the wedding dance.  The first part of the wedding dance was a ceilidh, which is a form of Scottish folk dancing that is a little bit like barn dancing.  Overall, Flat Stanley had a great time and he hopes to be invited to another Scottish wedding.
